Michael Coad

A brief history of Michael Coad

My FIRST CHAMPION was a Pyrenean Mountain Dog called Irish Champion Perenvay Goolangong at Pamplona, then in 1974 my second Champion followed called English & Irish Champion Karlinla at Pamplona, this was the first dog I showed at the world famous CRUFTS DOG SHOW, he was third in Open dog against 20 or so Champions

My involvement in Poodles started with my grandmother who always had a Standard as a pet. Irish Ch Dominator Of Leander was my first showdog and first Champion in 1978, he was purchased from Wendy Streatfield and he became a multiple group and Best In Show winner.

My first Standard Poodle bitch was purchased from Claire Coxall, she was English & Irish Champion Sheer Heaven From Tiopepe, she was a super Poodle to show and was a group winner. She went on to become a tremendous brood bitch and was the foundation of the Pamplona Poodles, producing Ch Pamplona Heaven Only Knows and Irish Ch Pamplona Some Like It Hot.

In total I have had 15 Standard Champions, the best has to be Champion Pamplona Something Special, and something special she was. She remains the Standard Poodle breed record holder here in the UK and has won more Best In Show awards than any other dog of any breed in the Uk. My most memorable win has to be winning the UTILITY GROUP with Ch P Something Special under the Queens royal painter Lionel Hamilton-Renwick at Crufts.

After all the success with Poodles and Pyreneans, in 1977 the Bichon Frise was to join Pamplona.
Snow Shamrock of Leander, Lemander Irish Lace & Lemander Irish Dancer were just the beginning. Irish Lace was the first Irish Champion and the first Bichon to win a Group in Ireland. I have also bred the first Bichon to win an All-Breeds Best in Show in Ireland with Ch Pamplona Dragonfly.

English and Irish Champion Tiopepi Mad Louie at Pamplona set a few records in his time……
purchased from Clare Coxall, he was the first Bichon to win the TOY GROUP at Crufts, and was the first Bichon to win an All-Breed Championship Best in Show in England.

Then came Champion Sibon Fatal Attraction at Pamplona, she was a Multiple GROUP & All-Breed Championship Best in Show Winner and was the first Bichon to win Top Dog All-Breeds in the UK, the second came with Eng & Am Ch Paray’s I Told You So (imp) in 2004. Fatal was the Breed Record Holder and the Top Winning British Bichon for over 10 Years, that record was broken in 2000.

I am passed to award CC’s in Standard, Miniature and Toy Poodles, Pyrenean Mountain Dogs and Bichon Frise.
